The Root Beer Stand, Kalamazoo, Michigan

Gotta love the slogan, and the homemade root beer, but...

Can someone please tell me what, exactly, is "hot fluffed ham"??

I was googling "hot fluffed ham and cheese" as I'm sitting here in Brooklyn NY eating a hot ham and cheese sandwich thinking nostagically about the Root Beer Stand in my beloved hometown of Kalamazoo, MI. I saw your pic of the menu and here I am. Hot fluffed ham is essentially thinly sliced ham product served hot on a bun usually with melted american cheese sauce. It's a very cheap non gourmet item but sometimes it does hit the spot. When I was a kid we'd hit up the Root Beer Stand for an awesome carside delivered frosty mug of homemade root beer and usually some reds (their slang for hot dog with ketchup and onion I think) once in awhile I'd get the hot fluffed ham, always with cheese tho.

Brings me back... I'm also a Kalamazoo native! Now in Florida. When I was growing up there my mom would buy a canned ham and take it to the meat department and have them "fluff" it. Which is super thinly slice it. We'd use it for sandwiches. And yes, the root beer stand in Kalamazoo... great memories!
